Prevent Bed Bugs

The Prevent Bed Bugs website is intended to provide information on bed bugs, and assistance with getting rid of them. This includes basic information on their life cycle and what they look like, as well as information on how to check for bed bugs and how to get rid of bed bugs if an infestation is found. In addition, the website also provides details on how to prevent bed bugs, and on how to avoid bed bugs when traveling and staying in hotels and hostels.

The following points are intended as an introduction on how to prevent bed bugs – please free to browse the pages in the left hand menu for more detailed information.

Regularly check for bed bugs, particularly in places that are heated, close to humans, and have hiding places like crevices and seams. This includes beds, carpets, cushions and sofas, and in furniture and night stands.

Thoroughly clean your home on a regular basis, decreasing clutter and even vacuum cleaning mattresses and lounge cushions. Though this may not totally prevent bed bugs, will minimize the number of places they are able to hide.

Apply a bed bugs spray to home furniture to eliminate bed bugs and prevent breeding. Standard insecticide spray can be used as a preventative measure to target areas and avoid a small number of bugs turning into an infestation.

Bed bug mattress covers are designed to prevent any bugs from crawling into, or out of, the mattress. Alternatively, this can be achieved by encasing your bed mattress in clear plastic, although this may not be as comfortable as a proper mattress cover.

Where possible, consider getting rid of any old household furniture that has previously been infested by bed bugs. In the event that any bed bugs are not exterminated, this will help prevent them spreading in your house all over again.

Prevent bed bugs from getting in to your house by installing or fixing window screens to keep birds or mice, who might have bugs on them, from gaining entry. And be vigilant and carefully check your luggage when staying in hotels and hostels.

Finally, if you do have a problem with bed bugs, it may be necessary to contact a pest control company to make sure they are properly and professionally exterminated. After all, no one wants to suffer bed bug bites!
